OBITUARY.
DEAN G. W. VAN DYK,
MISSIONER TO MAORIS.
A faithful worker amongst the Maoris, Dean G. W. Van Dyk, died at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital this morning. He was born in Holland 59 years ago, and arrived in New Zealand in 1890 tinder the aegis of the St. Joseph. Foreign Mission Society. He ultimately became superior of the Millliill Society in New Zealand, a position he held for the last twelve years. Practically the whole of his life, since coming to this country, had been devoted to home mission work amongst the Maoris. He was first stationed at Rotorua and then went to Taupo, but afterwards spent a number of years in the Dargaville district. Dean Van Dyk was the founder of St. Peter's School at Northcote, for Maori boys. He was highly esteemed by all | who knew him and had a gift for getting well in touch with the Maoris.
The remains of Dean Van Dyk will be brought to St. Patrick's Cathedral tonight, and will remain there all clay. At 10 a.m. on Saturday Bishop Liston will celebrate Pontificial Requiem Mass.
