UNEMPLOYMENT FUNDS.
I would like to draw the attention of readers to two columns in your paper recently. One column was headed "Position SeriousUnemployment Board Weekly Pay-out £30,000 —Further Funds Needed." The other column was: "New Zealand Goods —Unemployment Board Aid—Campaign of Publicity —Goods at Reasonable Prices." In the first column the board stated it was short of funds, and in the second that it was prepared to pay money to manufacturers to advertise their goods. I would like to ask the board whether it considers this fair to the men who have paid their seven and sixpence each quarter. I always understood the Unemployment Boaid levy was to assist the unemployed men. What is the sense in paying money from the unemployment fund to the manufacturers when the same manufacturers are before the Arbitration Court trying to reduce the workers' purchasing powers by twenty per cent?
