MOUNT ROSKILL ELECTIONS.

Replying to "Ratepayer's" letter in your issue of the 27th inst. re the above, I would state that 011 March 31, 1931, it was moved and seconded: "That Mount Roskill Road Board district be divided into three wards for representation only, the divisions to foe as follows: Eastern, all that portion of the district lying north of Mount Albert Road from Manukau Road to Three Kings Road; western, all that portion of the district lying north of Mount Albert Road, bounded by Three Kings Road on the east and the Borough of Mount Albert Road on the west; southern, all that portion of the district lying south of Mount Albert Road." Two members of the present board reside west of Three Kings, namely, Mr. S. Scarborough and Mr. R. Sanft. In connection with "Ratepayer's" reference to the voting in the different booths, and regarding his assertion that the voters only vote for the candidates in their own particular area, may I direct hk attention to the following facts, which are neither preposterous nor misleading? At the last poll two southern members of the present board polled more votes in the "interested" eastern area (three booths) than they polled in all the other four booths put together. One of them polled "249 votes at Greenwood's Corner alone, without the other two eastern area booths and only 199 votes in the south, west and Chamber of Commerce booths combined. The other southern member polled 527 votes in the eastern area and 504 votes only at the other four booths. Other figures can be given to prove that the eastern area generously and liberally supported candidates outside* its own particular district. Regarding rates, "Ratepayer" will please note that I made no reference to proportion. I simply stated that two-thirds of the rates obtained in Mount Roskill came from Greenwood's Corner area, and in this I am quite correct. If "Ratepayer" will do what every other ratepayer is privileged to do, that is, inquire at the board's office, he can obtain information which will convince him that my statement is correct, and not misleading. E. J. HAMLET.
