RELIEF WORK WAGES.
'Single Man" is evidently unaware that lie is much better off even with a reduction of 10/ a week as against 4/6 for a married man. He is earning his IS/ weekly. His rent is 7/6, for lie could get "a good room for that, which leaves 10/6 a week in good cash. A married man with three dependents earns £1 17/6 weekly. Now, if the house is worth anything to live in, it will cost at least £l*for rent, that leaves a married man 17/6 a week between four of them, something like 7M a day per head, while the single man has 1/6 per day. Moreover the married man works tnree and four days a week, while the single man works onlv two days a week. MARRIED MAN.
