RUGBY FOOTBALL.

TOUR BY AUSTRALIANS. WILL ARRIVE IN AUGUST. ITINERARY OF EIGHT MATCHES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Definite advice tliat an Australian representative Rugby team will leave Sydney for New Zealand on or about August 14 was received at a meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union this evening, and a sub-committee was appointed to draw up a tentative itinerary for the tour. Eight matches will be played, including one Test match, and one match against a Maori team. The chairman, Mr. S. S. Dean, pointed out that under the agreement between the two unions there would be a limit of eight matches for the tour. There could be only one Test, and probably matches against Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury, Otago, Hawke's Bay, and a game against a Maori team would be a good itinerary. Mr. E. McKenaie suggested that matches be arranged against Nortl\ Island teams and South Island teams. A North, v. South match could be played prior to the selection of the New Zealand Test team. Mr. T. Fletcher said that unions such as Nelson and Buller, which seldom received big matches, should be considered. He suggested that a cablegram he sent to the New South Wales Union asking if 10 matches would bo acceptable instead of eight. The Chairman: Do we want 10? In view of the economic conditions I -don't think we do. We should not ask leave

for players for New Zealano Test teams more than is necessai-y. This is why I suggested one Test. Mr. E. Wylie: Australian players cannot afford to be away too long, either. Messrs. Dean, Wylie and A. C. Kitto were appointed a sub-committee to draw up an itinerary, wh»cn will be discussed at another meeting of the committee on Tuesday next. It will be presented to the annual meeting the following day. AUCKLAND UNION MEETS. The New Zealand Union wrote sanctioning the reinstatement of W. E. Hadley. It was resolved to forward recommendations for reinstatement in the cases of the following players:—D. w. Shaw, C. Herbert, D. Baird, R. E. Travis, H. Ay Head. TAUPIRI UNION'S MEETING. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TAUPIRI, Wednesday.
