TROTTING TRACK.

BENEFICE WORKS WELL ROLFE AUDUBON IN FORM. A TRIP CANCELLED. Except that there was a fair amount of dust rising on the track, the conditions at Epsom this morning were favourable for training work. The majority of horses engaged at ithe Thames meeting were given useful work. Explosion (Clifton) had the hopples on and worked two miles. He stepped the finst half in 1.14, mile and a half in 3.37 2-5, and two miles in 4.50 2-5. He was never asked to go at top, and he paced well within himself all the way. Jock Bingen (McKendrick) was given plenty of work at three-quarter speed. He trotted smoothly, and was always doing his work in easy fashion. Rolfe Audubon (Laver), Prince Etawah (Shepherd) and Gold Treasure (Julian) were companions in a good workout. When they jumped away Gold Treasure was standing his companions up four lengths. Rolfe Audubon went off in the lead, reaching the half mile in 1.11, and the mile in 2.22. Gold Treasure then began to move up, and when the mile and a half was reached in 3.30 Rolfe Audubon had two lengths the best of Gold Treasure, with Prince Etawah close up. Rolfe Audubon and Prince Etawah were then pulled up, and Gold Treasure continued on for another half-mile, finishing well. Rolfe Audubon paced nicely, but Prince Etawah was tiring after going a mile and. a quarter.

Mr. Penalty (F. Smith) going at the trotting gait, and Pavlova (C. Smith), lined up to go a mile and a half, but at the end of two furlongs Mr. Penaltywent to a break. .When he settled down again he trotted solidly, but the speed was not on, and the time was very slow. Pavlova was always going easily alongside her companion. The best workout of the morning went down to the credit of Benefice (Morrison) and Mignonne (McMahon). They were warmed up, and were well under way when they started off, with Mignonne three lengths in front, but wide out on the track. Mignonne paced the first half-mile in 1.5 2-5, and the mile in 2.13. Benefice then being alongside on the rails, and going the better of the pair. The next quarter they ran in 34 2-ss, making 2.47 2-5 for the mile and a quarter. Mignonne appeared to have had enough, and Benefice was finishing on strongly. Miss Braaside (Smith) trotted a mile in 2.39, and a mile and a half in 3.56. Dad's Hope (Clifton) was too good for Margaret Wallace (Sandall), and led the mare all the way throughout a mile and a half done in 3.38 3-5. Cannui (C. Smith) was only jogging to keep with Carl' Mack (F. Smith) in a mile and a half done in 3.47. Kewpie's Triumph, after allowing Chrysta. to lead him for a mile and a quarter, then came away ito win by v. couple of lengths at the end of a mile; and a half in 3.37. Kewpie's Triumph stepped the last half-mile in 1.8 3-5.

NOT GOING SOUTH.

P. Smith has decided not to take a team_ to the Manawatu Trotting Club's meeting. Worthy Nor is very sore, and GarL Mack 'has not been hitting out with freedom. Miss Braeside is not forward enough to be regarded as a likely winner, and the only one of the team going satisfactorily is _ Pavlova. Under the circumstances Smith has cancelled his proposed trip.
