CLUBS CLOSING DOWN.

BETTING TAX IN N.S.W. SYDNEY, January 5. .The betting tax is so seriously affecting the attendances and the volume of betting that a number of country clubs in New South Wales have decided to abandon racing while ths Lang Government is in office. ' The Premier, Mr.'J. T. Larig, stated to-day that he had noticed that there was considerable propaganda against the betting tax Snd complaints of dwindling attendances at race meetings. This he felt was an argument in favour of the curtailment of racing. He therefore would invite his colleagues to agree to a reduction of meetings in-the metropolitan area, which possibly would, lead to better attendances at those which would be permitted. 1
