ELECTRIC LOCOMOTION.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. The* Railway Department has paid considerable attention recently to the merits of Diesel electric rail traction, and investigations in this connection were made by a senior officer of the Department while on a trip abroad. Although a good deal has been said in favour of electric locomotion, the "Department states that the developments have not been such as to warrant its adoption in place of steam. Tests of an exhaustive nature have been carried out in various parts of the world, and it is stated that the results have not come up to expectations.
