ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL?

CAR CAPSIZES OVER BANK. & MAN NASTILY INJURED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. Over fatigue is accountable for a nastymotoring accident which occurred on the Otaika Road on New Year's evening. Having attended the Ellerslie races, Mr. L. W. Nelson set out for his home at Whangarei in Ms two-seater car, and had travelled to within three-quarters of a mile of the Otaika 'abattoirs, when, at this point, it is probable that he momentarily dropped asleep. The result was that the car left the road and capsized over a bank. In falling, it turned over twice. Mr. Nelson suffered an extensive scalp wound and a cut artery, which was probably caused through being thrown against the shattered glass of the windscreen. Although bleeding profusely* he started to walk towards the nearest light. Fortunately, a taxi soon appeared, and it'at once took him to the Whangarei Public' Hospital, where ho was admitted at 12.30 a.m. The bleeding was immediately checked, and yesterday the wounds' Were stitched. Mr. Nelson's conditioii' is now good, but quietness is neefeSSary for a few days.
