Tests in the use of aluminium Instead of tinplate for canning fish are being undertaken. Aa aluminium is lighter than tinplate its use would cause a considerable saving in freight. Aluminium cannot be used at present for every kind of food canning, because the seams of aluminium cans will not stand the high •'temperatures required in canning certain types of produce. Some success is to have been made in canning in aluminium sardines, brisling and other fish for which high temperatures are not required.
