CYCLING.

NEW ZEALAND UNION OF

CYCLISTS.

AUCKLAND CENTRE MEETS.

The Auckland centre of the Now Zealand Union of Cyclists met last evening m plenary session. Mr. Paul presided, and in opening the proceedings extended a welcome to two new delegates and to the Kaikohe Club through its delegates. e

The Manukau Club was granted permission to decide an amateur road championship in conjunction with its round-harbour race on September 18. During a somewhat lengthy discussion, Mr. C. J. Stewart urged the centre to prescribe that tha championship be. awarded in such a manner that all who contested the honour should start on an equal footing, namely, all titleseekers on scratch, and this because the only other fair method of a time trial was unavailable. Mr. Stewart's rhetoric failed, however, to break down a conservative feeling based on the past year's practices, with the result that it was decided (Mr. Stewart alone dissenting), to award the title to the fastest-time rider. The meeting then discussed arrangements for meeting the delegates of the Papatoetoe Club in conference at a special session. ( The meeting then resolved into a committee of the whole centre to formulate and discuss matters concerning cycling on Labour Day. The recommendations were agreed to and a special committee of the centre was instructed and empowered to give effect to these.
