AN AUSTRALIAN PURCHASE.
SHAMGAE IN WORK.
WILL REQUIRE TIME,
Shamgar, a Moabite gelding, who was purchased in Australia by Mr. G. Paul, is in steady work at Te Awamutu. He is. a big raking gelding, and at the present time is carrying a lot of surplus condition. He will require a good deal of time before he is ready to race, for he looks to be a very gross sort. So far Shamgar has not sported silk, and after he has an outing or two in public ho may come on much better. He. is a very big gelding, standing fully sixteen hands. Trishna, who was acquired at the same time, has had two' races since his arrival in the Dominion. This gelding is a good looking sort, but may not be seen at his best until the ground is hard. He is a four-year-old by Seremond from Mallaig, and at present is a bit big in condition, and his trainer, J. Paul, is of the opinion that he is one of the sort who will need plenty of racing before he strikes his true form. When in Sydney he won four small races.
