EDUCATION REFORMS.

HON. H. ATMORE CONGRATULATED,

(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.)

WELLINGTON, this day,

Professor W. H. Gould, professor of education at Victoria University College, has sent the following letter to the Hon. Harry Atmore, Minister of Education:—"lf I may, without presumption, I would like to express my cordial appreciation of the masterly report of the education committee. In practically all those aspects of the education service that the committee has reported upon it has shown an insight and breadth of view that lift the report to the highest standard."

"If the country can be persuaded to adopt the proposals contained in the report our education service, even how an admittedly good service, will compare in organ Nation at ieast with that in any ct-unl.rv in the world.

'I am more than impressed by the characteristically British spirit the report display*.' I refer particularly to the cnipljaeis.. upon locality, and to the comment upon the scheme- of grading primary teachers. Hud the eommittce done no more than this it would deserve the gratitude of all New Zealander?, but it has cone more. It has surveyed our whoie national system in such a fashion as not only to lay lare its weaknesses, biit also to suggest the remedies from the oipanisation and administrative tide. I am a<- present basing my remarks upon the necessarily condensed newspaper report. I trust th.it when the rep-.). 1 ! is available to us, I (shall find niy>e)r lis much in accord with it ns I have been with the few extra'us appearing in the Press.'
