HIDE AND SKIN AUCTION.
VERY POOR MARKET.
MANY LINES PASSED IN.
Business was dull at the auction of hides and sheepskins this afternoon in the Chamber of Commerce. Most lots of hides were passed in owing to the low prices, offered. Sheepskins had sales at prices that showed a drop of from one farthing to one halfpenny on the rates ruling at the previous sale. Following are to-day's quotations:— Sheepskins—Dry: Half to three-quarter wool, 6%d to 7d per lb; short and half wool, 4%d to 5%d; quarter wool, 3 J /4d to 4d; lambs, sVm\ to 6%d. Salted: Best, 5/3 to 6/1 each; good, 4/3 to 5/; medium and poor, 2/6 to 3/6. Hides. —Heavy ox,' 49id per lb; medium and light, 4%d; heavy cow, 4%d; light, sd; yearlings, sd; best calf, to 9d. Tallow—Best mixed, 20/ to 21/; medium, 18/ to 19/; poor, 15/6 to 17/.
