NOTES FROM ELLERSLIE.
THIS MORNING'S WORK
OMEO STILL SOKE.
There was very little doing at Ellerslie this morning, as most of the horses were raced yesterday. No. 3 grass track was open, and several horses were allotted useful tasks.
The Great Northern Steeplechase candidate Aurora Borealis. strode over six furlongs at a useful pace. She is little the worse for her race in the Great Northern Hurdles yesterday. Young Thurnham, who has been off the scene for some time, was schooled over four hurdles, and gave a satisfactory display, although he did not haye ; much pace dn. He is engaged in the Winter Steeplechase at Ellerslie on Saturday. Luminary (R. Thompson) and Spalupin' (Turner) were companions over four schooling hurdles, completing their task safely. Luminary,. who gave much the better display of the two, Tenced quickly and cleanly. They were afterwards worked over six furlongs on the No. 3 grass, Luminary easily holding his companion at the finish. Kamehameha is an unlikely starter in the Great Northern Steeplechase, but will probably contest the Remuera Hurdles.
Prince Lu and Matu were worked together over six furlongs, running the distance in 1.22 3-5. Prince Lu was going much the easier of the pair at the finish, and W. McLean has him in first class condition for his hurdle engagements at the Great Northern meeting.
The Great .Northern candidate Omeo was worked over a round on the grass, and although he appeared to move all right'in his work, he was showing signs of soreness after he cooled down. It is doubtful if this horse will fulfil his engagements in the Great Northern Steeplechase to-morrow.
