MANUREWA TOWN BOARD.

The Manurewa Town Board met last evening, Mr. Geo. Gallaher presiding. Football Chub.—Referring to the Rugby Football Club's application for permission to use the Jellicoe Park reserve on the same terms as last year the, clerk, Mr. H. Kay, reported that the board's percentage of the gate takings had amounted to 7/6 for the season. Mr. C. A. Fawcett considered that the leasing of the area for grazing purposes would be a better financial proposition. Other members supported the application on the principle that sport should be encouraged in the district. Advertising Sign.—A city fira. sought permission to erect a signboard on the Great South Road, south of the overhead railway bridge. Mr. Fawcett said the proposed sign would not interfere with the vision of motorists. It was decided to grant the request, but to stipulate a charge of £5 per annum on a yearly tenancy, the firm to erect and maintain the sign.

Building Permit.—-Mr. A. W. Gillies, whose block of shops in Station Road was recently destroyed by fire, wrote asking for permission to re-erect the building in wood. It was decided to decline the application, in the terms of the by-laws. Police Protection.—lt was decided to apply again to the Minister of Justice for the appointment of a local resident police officer.
