t —• PAPAKTJRA-KARAKA ROADWAY. SUBSIDENCE IN CENTRE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) PUKEKOHE, Monday. Because it has subsided 12 inches .in the centre, the Franklin County Council ngineer, Mr. J. F. McArthur, to close the concrete bridge on the main Papakura-Karaka road. Residents wn desire to go to Papakura will in the meantime have to make a long detour through Drury. A large amount through traffic which uses this road will have to be diverted to other routes. The bridge, which crosses an arm oi the Manukau Harbour, was constructed about 15 years ago by the Karaka Road. Board. It is over 50yds in length, ana built in two spans. Mr. McArthur thinks it possible that the bridge may have subsided to a maximum degree and become stable again.
