EFFECT OF DRAINAGE.
DRINKING- WATER FOR STOCK MINISTER ASKED FOR HELP. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WHANGAREI, this day. Several settlers met the Minister of Lands, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, at Hikurangi yesterday and put certain grievances before him. One of the most important was that dairy and other stock could not get drinking water a 6 a result of the drainage works which had been going on. This affected the whole of the back sections on some farms. There were cc-rtain places, however, which could bo used for the purpose of watering stock. Mr. H. M. Rushworth, M.P., suggested that the Department should find a water supply, and if the cost was considered too great then the matter should be subject to compromise when the Government handed over the scheme to a drainage board. Mr. MacMorran, chief drainage engineer, suggested that the settlers affected could overcome the difficulty by doing certain fencing, as was usually done in other drainage districts. Mr. Forbes, in reply, said he would go into the matter and advise the settlers what could be done.
