ROTORUA NOTES.

[ Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Ward, who have been staying at Princes Gate, have re- ! turhed to Wellington. Miss M. O'Brien, of Mount Eden, who has been spending a holiday with her sister, Mrs. P. C. Munro, Seddon Street, Eotorna, has left for Puriri, where she will be the guest of her sister, Mrs. D. Courtney. Mrs. Grove, sen., and Mr. F. Grove, Fenton Street, have returned from a motor tour of the Auckland and Taranaki districts. Mrs. H. Bertram, Ranolf Street, who has been on a visit to New Plymouth, has returned to Rotorua. She was accompanied by Dr. Bertram, who has been on a visit to Australia. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Shaw, Ranolf Street, have returned from a holiday spent at Mount Maunganui. Mrs. W. B. Giesen, Hinemaru Street, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Eric Young, of Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Paterson, Carnot Street, have returned from a visit to Mount Maunganui. Mrs. H. L. Hickson has left on a short visit to Wanganui. Mrs. Cooper-Smith and Miss Cooper-Smith, of St. Helier's Bay, Auckland, are on a visit to Rotorua. Mr. and Mrs. John Dudding, of Hunterville, have been spending a holiday at Brent's Bathgate House. Miss R. Lewis, of Auckland, is the guest of Dr. and Mrs. L. A. Lewis, King George V. Hospital. In the men's ward at the Government Sanatorium, Rotorua, an enjoyable dance was given for the patients and friends by Matron Andrews and the staff. The cot cases were placed around the ward, so as to be able to view the proceedings. Mr. Olson expressed thanks to Matron Andrews. The official closing day and presentation of prizes of the Rotorua Croquet Club was held on Saturday. The president, Mrs. J. Halkett, and Mrs. C. H. Clinkard presented the trophies, and there was a large gathering of members and visitors. A' very handsome cup, bought by the club, to be known as the Champion Cup, was won by Mrs. Hogan, the runner-up being Mrs. W. L. Richards. Other prize winners were: Mesdames C. H. C. Worthington, Hogan, La Trobe Hill, F. C. Bunvard, W. L. Richards, I. R. Blencowe, W. A. Thomsen, Hesketh, Steele, Pakes, Parata, Nesbitt, Boucher, and Heley. Competitions during the. afternoon were won by Mesdames C. H. C. Worthington, Manson, Heley and Todd. The secretary was presented with a pair of vases made of New Zealand wood, as a token of appreciation from the members of the committee. The Rotorua Women's Club organised a concert at the Government Sanatorium. The men's ward was arranged with bowls of white Michaelmas daisies and chrysanthemums. Mr. A. G. Hodgson, on "behalf of Mrs. Hodgson, was chairman. An enjoyable programme was given, with songs by Mrs. G. Haymes, Mr. P. Basham, Mr. Foster, with violin obligato by Mr. A. Painton; humorous songs and duets by Mr. and Mrs. Luk; violin solos by Mr. IST. Walker and Mr. A. Painton; recitations and a reading from "The Sentimental Bloke" by Mr. A. G. Hodgson. The accompaniments were played by Miss M. Mactier and Miss Cooper-Smith. At the conclusion of supper, Mr. Olson, on behalf of the patients, passed a hearty vote of thanks to the visitors for the delightful concert, followed by the singing of "Auld Lang Syne" and the National Anthem.
