AUCKLAND IMPORTERS.
ANNUAL MEETING.
INSURANCE ADVOCATED,
The members of the Auckland' Importers and Shippers" Protection Association, Limited, met yesterday afternoon. In the absence of the chairman, Mr. Robert Burns, Mr. H..G. Thomson presided. ' ~ .. ■ , •■' .. It ,was reported that an unusually large proportion of. goods from Continental ports had been the subjects of 'claims for damage through transhipment. Since the collection of evidence where there had been three or four handlings of the goods was difficult, if not impossible, to obtain, eitfrer through difficulties of communication or because, of the extortionate cost, the prosecution of clairiis for damage was hot economical. In view of these: circumstances, it seemed Wise to recommend to importers that they should ■ cover these risks by insurance, as other redress was likely to be impracticable. , The board of directors'was re-elected.
