SWAGGERS' ESCAPE.
IN BURNING BUILDING. OLD HOTEL DESTROYED. MAX SLIDES DOWN POST. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ASHBURTOX, this day. Four swaggers Bad a narrow escape when the old Alford Forest Hotel, a landmark for 50 years, was destroyed by fire at 2.30 a.m. yesterday. The fire started on the outside, at the north-west corner, and, fanned by a north-west wind, quickly destroyed the building. One man had to slide down a post to escape. The -building was closed 25 years ago, and was unfurnished. It was owned by Mr. C*. J. Boucher, and valued at £400. It was not insured.
