VETERAN'S DEATH.
SERVICE IN MAORI WARS
ME. A. C. FORT.
After a protracted illness, the death occurred at his home at 16, Marlborough Street, off Dominion Eoad, this morning, of Mr. Adam Clapperton Fort. A veteran of the Maori wars, Mr. Fort had attained the age of So years. With his parents he first settled in Australia, but 60 years ago came to New Zealand. He spent some considerable time on the Thames goldfields, where he engaged in the butchery business. Later he removed to Auckland, where he joined the Pitt Volunteers, with whom he served in the Lower Waikato. On his retirement from active service, Mr. Fort established a butcher's business in College Hill. In more recent years he was proprietor of the Turkish baths in Auckland. The deceased is survived by his second wife, three daughters and a son — Mrs. Tremain (Auckland), Mrs. Thompson (Bavswater), Miss Jessie Fort (Bayswater) and Mr. G. D. Fort (Auckland). All the children were by Mr. Fort's first wife, and there are 13 grandchildren.
