PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD.

The Papatoetoe Town Board met last evening, the chairman, Mr. T. R. Smytheman, presiding. Polling Hours.—A decision was made, in accordance with a suggestion by the Welfare League, to apply for an Order-in-Council extending the hours of polling at the next town board election to 7 p.m. Welfare League. —Complaints of the condition of the footpaths in consequence of the waterworks reticulation were made by the Welfare League. It was decided to reply that the pavements would be reformed in terms of the contract. The Welfare League also suggested the_ need of rubbish baskets and public conveniences in the district. It was decided to consider both matters in connection with next year's estimates. Water Supply.—The water engineers, Messrs. Jones and Adams, recommended the purchase- of a plant for tapping the mains at high pressure to make connections with new houses, after the completion of the present reticulation work. It was decided to obtain prices from indentors Additional Loan of £3700.—A draft letter applying to the Loans Board for authority to raise £3700 for the_ reticulation of new streets formed since _ the former loan was raised, was submitted by the engineers. The- streets concerned were Tawera Road, Dreadon Road, Weston Avenue, Glen Road, Rangitoto Avenue extension, Wentworth Avenue extension. Athletic Meeting. — The Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club was granted permission to hold a sports meeting on the recreation ground on January 18. Annual Clean-up.—The town clerk, Mr. W. Young, was instructed to inquire from the Otahuhu Borough Council whether the board could obtain permission to dispose of rubbish collected at the annual "clean-up" at the borough dump. It was decided to provide temporary services where mains were provided for but not yet installed. Water Meters. —Seven tenders received for the supply of 500 water meters were referred to.the engineer for a report. Turncock's Report.—The turncock, Mr. R. S. Brooks, reported that 363,000 gallons had been pumped during the fortnight, and connections had been made with 19 houses.
