LOCAL BODIES.

MOUNT ROSKILL ROAD BOARD. Mr. E. F. Jones, chairman, presided at the meeting of the Mount Roskill Road Board held last .night. Pah Road.—The Auckland City Council intimated its willingness to nay half the cost of tar sealing Pah Road, which is a boundary road, if Mount Roskill will do the work. Golf Club.—The board declined to grant a remission of part of the rates due by the Akarana Golf Club, as requested at the last meeting of the board, by a deputation. Tender.—The tender of 4/ per cubic yard received from Messrs McCarten Bros, for crushing 6palls was declined, and the foreman of works was instructed to deal with the matter in another way. Removal of Refuse. —Messrs. Burke and Co. asked to be given- the job of lifting the household refuse for the northern area of the district as part compensation for their losses, through bad debts, on their sanitary contract. Referred to the finance committee to report. Roskill South.—The board adopted a resolution expressing its opposition to the secession of Roskill South and the amalgamation thereof with the city. The chairman and Messrs. S. I. Goodall, the clerk and engineer were authorised to give evidence before the commission now sitting in support of the resolution on the following grounds (1) The entire district is against it as shown in the recent poll on the question; (2) the increased cost of administration of the balance of the district; (3) in many cases services (transport, water, etc.) would have to tarverse remaining part of the district; (4) complications of apportionment of special rates -will arise if the southern portion of the district be severed from Mount Roskill. Kingswood Terrace.—Mr. G. E. Tansley reported his interview with the Wesleyan Trust Board, relative to the condition of Kingswood Terrace. The latter authority had stated that they were heavily rated when they had to pay £1700 a year in rates. They promised to consider the road board's request for assistance. Right-of-Ways—The board affirmed the principle that In future all shop sites m'ust make provision for a right-of-way, the size m each case to be decided on its merits.

WA!UKU TOWN BOARD

The Waiuku Town Board met on Monday night, the chairman, Mr. J. J. A. James, presiding. The board's engineer submitted a report on the work carried out to date on the ■water scheme, and recommended that the shed to cover the pumping plant should be erected. It was resolved to call tenders for the erection of the shed.

Messrs. James and Ward were appointed to obtain the names of those who lost their lives in the War, and to go into the matter of raising funds for the War Memorial.
