MALOLO FIASCO.

INDIGNATION IN SUVA. BIG PROGRAMME ABANDONED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) SUVA, December 3. Even the agents for the Matson Line were thunderstruck when they received notice from the agent of the American Express Company, who chartered the Matson ]iner Malolo to carry round the big crowd of tourists, that the vessel would reach Suva at 11 a.m. on Friday, instead of daylight on Saturday. The Matson agents here had arranged a lengthy programme, including big native mekes and fire-walking, etc., in which over 250 natives were taking part, hefty warriors from county centres. Then the Government had been approached, and it had agreed to advance £100 towards the cost of entertaining the visitors. Everything looked "extra good," and never has Suva so well laid itself out to be hospitable. Suddenly, in a short cable message, the whole box of tricks was spilt. The residents are furious, as all the programme has had to be abandoned except the drive round the main route of about 30 miles. The Malolo reached Suva at 10 a.m. on Friday, and was due to leave at 5 p.m. the same day for Pago Pago.
