WATERFRONT ROAD.
QUESTION OF TBANSPOBT. BUSES OR TRACKLESS TROLLEYS? Trackless trains and buses on the newwaterfront road between the city and St. Helier's Bay were briefly discussed at this mornings meeting of the Auckland Transport Board. The question cropped up when L. J. Keys, Limited, applied for authority to establish a motor omnibus service along the road. This raised a discussion, a hint being dropped that the waterfront road was to be experimented with by trackless trolleys. Mr. E. J. Phelan said the company had "played the game" by the board, and were entitled to know the future policy as it affected the buses. They must have security if they were to give a decent service. Mr. G. Baildon, in pointing out that the road had not yet been handed over to the City Council, said heavy buses might considerably affect the road. He was not sure that it was right to allow such traffic. The company's application was declined, the question to be reconsidered in the New Year.
