HAWKE CUP MATCH. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., tins day. The cricket match for the Hawke Cup between Manawatu (holders) and Hawke's Bay (challengers) was commenced this morning in fine weather. Hawke's Bay won the toss and batted, Worker and Temperton opening. Soon after the start Worker snicked one off McVicar to leg, and Norris accepted the catch. Hudson was next, but after making two he was bowled by Gallichan. Reaney and Lowry batted carefully, 20 being scored after forty minutes. When the- total was 35 Lowry snicked one from McVicar and Morris accepted the chance. Shepherd was the next batsman. Reaney. after making 28, was caught easily by Greig. Elliott did not last long, being caught by Ongley. At luncheon the score was 80 for six wickets. Scores:— HAWKE'S BAY.—First Innings.
