TRAM EXTENSIONS.

WORK AT REMUERA. CONTRACT ACCEPTED. START EARLY NEXT YEAR.

It is expected that the Remuera train way extension will be commenced ai the beginning of February next. Messrs Brierly and McLeod. the lowest tenderer; for the excavation work, were granted the contract at to-day's meeting of the Auckland Transport Board. The schedule rate is the same as for the Dominion Road and Point Chevalier work. Mr. G. Ashley considered that the Mount Eden extension should have priority, as a bus service was run there by the council, the loss on the running being over £3000 per annum. He gave notice of motion to have the' question considered at the next meeting. In connection with the proposed Richmond Road extension the opinion was given that a trial should be give on that route of trackless trolleys.
