FLAT-RATE FARES.
MOUNT AIBEET'S BEQUEST. WORKERS AND TRAMS. Objection to the present tram fares was raised in a letter received to-day by the Transport Board from the Mount Albert Terminus Ratepayers' Association, because they do not give sufficient encouragement to city workers to live in the suburbs. The adoption of the flat-rate system was urged. In moving that the letter be received, the chairman, Mr. J. A. C. Alluin, pointed out that the present workers' weekly ticket at 3/5 provided relatively cheap travel for workers living in the outer suburbs. Mr. E. H. Potter: That only refers to a very few workers, Mr. Chairman. Mr. L. E. Rhodes: The letter does not refer only to workers going to the city before 8 a.m., but to workers in a more general sense. Mr. G. Ashley pointed out that the concession for workers was available to all leaving for the city up to 8.30 a.m. He contended that this wan a good concession.
