OBITUARY.

MR. FRANCIS ROBERTS. One of the oldest employees of the Auckland Gas Co., Mr. Francis Roberts, of Grandview Road, Remuera, died on Is'oveniber 24, aged 74 years. The interment took placu Tuesday afternoon at Purewa Cemetery. Mr. Roberts had been a member of the staff of the Auckland Gas Co. for 46 years, and was still on the pay roll at the time of his death. Two years ago he was given seven months' leave of absence in order to pay a visit to the Homeland. Prior to the introduction of electric lighting for the streets, Mr. Roberts was foreman of the department that attended to street lighting for the Gas Co. He continued On the staff of the lighting department until his death. Mrs. Roberts predeceased her husband. MR. D. S. BROWN. A well-known business man of this city, Mr. David Stratton Brown, died on Tuesday at his home, No. 11, Ascott Avenue, Devonport, at the age of 61 years. Mr. Brown had been suffering from heart trouble for some time, and lias beeu away from business for about a couple of months. He has had several bad attacks recently, and as a result of a more serious one, death took place at six o'clock this morning. Mr. Brown was married in Auckland, «and is survived by his wife. There are no children. The firm of Brown and tSewart, wholesale stationers, Swanson Street, was founded 34 years ago by the late Mr. T. G. Brown and Mr. R. L. Stewart. Mr. D. S. Brown has been wich the firm ever since his arrival from Home, and was a director at the time of his death. A quiet unassuming man, Mr. Brown never took any part in public matters. MRS. MARY DAVIS. After a residence of 65 years in New Zealand, Mrs. Mary Davis died at Newton on November 20, aged 86. She arrived in the Dominion by the ship Nimrod in 1864, and was later married to Mr. Samuel Davis, who died 35 years ago. Mrs. Davis was the only sister of the late Mr. Richard and Mr. Patrick Kearney, who were on .the staff of L. D. Nathan, Ltd. Deceased is survived by the following children: Mrs. Ball, Miss Davis and Mr. P. Davis. There fere eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. The interment was in the Symonds Street Cemetery. MR. G. W. MINTER. The death of Mr. G. W. Minter in Wellington at the age of 77 years removed a man generally known in business circles. He was born in New South Wales and came to New Zealand as a lad to join his uncle on a station in Otago. Later he entered the employ of the Bank of New Zealand and subse-. quently rose to be a branch manager. Mr. Minter next went into business on his own account, -and at various times managed different firms. He was interested in the search for gold and petroleum in New Zealand. Mrs. Minter surr vives her husband. There are two daughters.
