MINING NEWS.

MANAGERS' REPORTS. Ohinemuri.—During the period ended the 23rd instant, development operations weresuspended and all work concentrated on stoping. At No. 3 level stopes are being carried on the Camoola reef, north and South of No. 2 winze, where sulphide ore of good grade is forthcoming. Further stopes are in progress at the Silverstream crosscut and at a point 750 feet farther south. At the latter point highly payable ore is being mined for a width of ten feet. Stoping northward of main rise, south section. 1720 ft from main crosscut is also in progress in payable ore. At No. 4 level, north section on Camoola reef, stoping is proceeding north and south of No. 1 rise, 570 feet north of main crosscut. Here the sulphide ore averages eight feet in width of good grade. Several mechanical difficulties at the mill delayed the commissioning of the full complement of the twenty heads of stampers. All these have been overcome and the mill is now crushing at full capacity.

Hauraki Consolidated. —Stoping on nl;e Stock wood reef, above the 400 ft level, is in progress in both directions from the block rise. Three or four pounds of picked stone were selected from the same stope as produced the gold last week. Another stope from the rise has been started. The reef and the country rock continue of the same nature as where the gold was got in the stopes below. This rise is now about 70ft above the level. The seaward face was extended 12ft for the week, leaving a further 14ft to reach the estimated position of the Venus reef. A few quartz leaders were passed through during the week, and a littie extra water is coming from the face. The country rock is the same as where the gold was got, being interlaced with fine grained mineral seams.

Lucky Shot.—The stopes above No. 2 winze have been stopped until the battery starts crushing, which will he about the end of the coming week. The men from the stopes have started on the south face at the intermediate level, and a distance of Sft has been driven. The reef is 2ft wide of high grade ore, gold being seen in the ore at each breaking down. In the drive north of No. 2 winze there is no change since last report. The men have been engaged timbering the leading stope, which was finished to-day.

,Alburnia.— I The leading stope on main Orlando lode has been carried along for a distance of 65ft, and the main timbers put in level. The reef here averages 3ft wide,, and is a strong heavily mineralised body of stone carrying antimony, blende and silica. Strong dabs of gold are still seen in the ore. Rise on cross leader, from drive north on hangingwall branch of Orlando lode, has been risen 7ft, a total of 55ft. The reef here averages 12in wide, and carries nice mineral blende and silica; dabs of gold are seen in the ore. The reef here is still underlying Tfery fiat-—about one in one —>and as we have 180 ft vertical to the Whau level, on the underlay of this leader, we should have a block 230 ft high to the Whau level, and all new country. Tui Gold Mine.—Have hid men sinking in No. 2. The reef is about 15.inches in width, and appears to be making. The stone is heavily mineralised and the country rock is all that could be desired. I fully expect the stone to make gold shortly. The hopper has now been completed, shoot made, and the tram line extended over the shoot. The capacity of the hopper is 20 tons. Waiomo Sulphide.—The drive on the reef recently exposed eastward of the main workings at No. 3 level has been taken along 90ft north and south of the crosscut. The reef averages about six feet in width and carries pay ore for the iull distance driven. This body contributes a valuable addition to the ore reserves. Stoping on the Zeehan block north and south of No. 1 rise at No. 3 leVel is in progress in milling ore of good grade. Good ore is also being exposed in the stopes north and south of No. 2 rise on the north reef. Stoping is vigorously proceeding in anticipation of the commencement of milling within the next few weeks. Satisfactory headway is being made with the construction of the aerial tramway to connect mine and mill. The construction of the new plant to generate power for the mill is being expedited. The installation of thi oil flotation plant is well in hand and it is hoped to have this unit ready for operation prior to the end of December.

Moanataiari.—The manager .reports that the shaft was sunk a further distance of 7ft, total 30ft. There is a change of country, it being now of a fairly firm bluish nature and of a lively description, carrying a great deal of iron pyrites. This is better country for making values when quartz is met with than any so far seen in the shaft! The work in the shaft has been only about half time, as it takes longer to truck the dirt out than to break it.

Golden Age.—The drive on Fox's leader has been extended Bft. The leader is 9in wide, of heavily mineralised ore. No gold has been seen in it, but the ore looks very promising at present. Occidental Una.—Commenced crushing at McGregor's battery, eight tons from hangingwall leader and 16 tons from stockwork formation, and this ore should be about finished during the coming week. Work in the mine has been confined to extending the face on the hangingwall leader, which is about Tin wide, and when broken down slfrws dabs of gold. The country rock is all that could be desired. WAIHI MINE. IMPROVED OUTLOOK. (By Telegraph,—Special to "Star.") . WAIHI, this day. The mining outlook at Waihi has considerably improved recently, owing to development on No. 10 level of the mine, when a new reef six feet wide was intersected carrying vdlues to the extent of 73/f> per ton ; also to an assay value of 48/3 per ton met with for seven feet on the Empire lode. No. 9 level: During last weekend Messrs. Chas. Rhodes. R. E. Williams, pAny, paid a visit to Wnihi in connection and R. G. Milligan, of the Waihi Comwith the company's business.
