BELTON'S CREW WINS ELLERBECK TROPHIES.
Eight crews faced the starter on Saturday .afternoon, when the Waitemala Boating Club held a set of trial fours for Mr. C. J. Ellerbeck's trophies. Water conditions, were ideal, and there were three heats and a final rowed. Results were as follow :— First Heat.—Crews in the first heat were R. Smith, W. D. Shore, E. Evans, and O. T. Allan; 11. J. .Bpasley, N. Hunt, C. C. Cairns, C. 11. Hunter; C. G. Fearon, E. B. Gladding, C. Hunt and 11. Ellison. Fearon won by several lengths. Second Heat.—-Two, crews competed in the second heat.' They were A. M. Mackay, W. A. Edwards, M. N. Pierce and Gordon ; W. J. Lowe, F. A. Horning, J. C. Allingliam and P. Usher. Lowe won by a length. Third Heat.—There was some delay in getting the crews out. Barker's being .'the last to go to the post. The three crews in this heat were: C. P. Belton. D. Gallagher, 11. R. Shearson, G. E. Watt: W. Eaddy. H. .T. Laurence, G. J. Howard, R. Graham; R. G. Barker, E. Hope-Bishop, F. F. Simmons, A. Qraham, Belton won by a canvas from Barker, with Eaddy a length away. Final.—Crews' stroked by Fearon, Lowe and Belton met in the final. The lastmentioned got the better of the start, with Lowe next. For the first quarter of a mile they raced on almost level terms. Then Lowe had an accident to his boat, which caused him to retire from ' the race. Fearon meantime had gained on Belton. Over the last 200 yards Belton's crew, rowing well, went ahead and won the race by a length and a half. The winning crew was: C. P. Belton, D. Gallagher, H. R. Shearson and G. E. Watt, with J. Jbnes coxswain.
