NORTH SHORE CLUB. PRESIDENT'S TRIAL POURS. The North Shore Rowing Club boathouse, King Edward Parade, was the scene of a brignt function on Saturday, when the official opening of the season took place. The president, Mr. Cassells-Brown, in welcoming the visitors, who attended in strong force, outlined the policy of the club, and stressed the necessity of local support lor the club. Mr. Cassells-Brown then called upon the member of the district, Mr. A. Harris who, in referring to the wonderful records the club has achieved during the last 55 years, declared the season open. The members gave an idea of their rowing prowess in a set of trial fours for trophies donated by the president, Mr. Cas-sells-Brown. Six crews competed, but rough water that delayed the racing was experienced over (he course from the North Head to the boatliouse. Mr. Cassells-Brown was judge, and the starting by mutual consent. The lirst heat crews were A. Cotes, C. Olliver, P. Muskett, C. Eagles; D. Davies, B. Vowles, R. Follas, G. Bearing. Cotes won by one length. The second heat crews were: —D. Dean, S. Cliallinor, L. Stead, G. Cade; E. Korn, F. Eatou, D. Walsh, J. Smith. Korn won by a third of a length. The third heat crews were:—F. Norris, D. Townsend, L. Carlyle, W. Eggerton ; M. McCallum, G. Gardiner, A. Lawrence, S. Jinks. Norris won by one length. The crews of Korn and Norris met in the semi-final. There was little between the crews for over half-way. Norris then forged ahead. Off the old wharf, Korn challenged, and an exciting finish ended in Norris winning by one foot. The crews in the final were stroked by Norris and Cotes. Norris led for three quarters of the distance, when Coles challenged, and in an exciting finish Cotes won by half a length. Two crews faced the starter for the veterans' race. There were a number of other old-timers present, but the.v did not relish the water conditions. The crews were :—-

B. Rutledge, H. Stephenson, S. Me Duff, A. Clark; H. Hunter, F. L. Gutry, li. Follis, W. Conway. Hunter's crew won easily. The race was a disappointment. Hunter's crew took the lead from the start. Before half-way Ilutledge's four was waterlogged, but managed to row the boat into the clubhouse landing. Hunter had practically a row over.
