AMBULANCE TRANSPORT.

AUCKLAND RULES. NO GUARANTEE DEMANDED. Mr. William Rattray, honorary secretary of the Auckland Centre of "the St. John Ambulance, writes as follows:— "My attention has been drawn to the report of an accident which occurred in Canterbury, and to the unfortunate dolay in taking the patient to the Christchurch Hospital, caused by the rule that an ambulance would not be sent \mless the cost of the trip was guaranteed. This rule do s not apply in Auckland. The Auckland Centre of the St. John Ambulance has four up-to-date ambulances, thoroughly well equipped, and four specially trained transport officers, whose services are available at any hour of the day and night. These are dispatched immediately after a call is received, no question about payment being asked. Those who are in a.position to pay do so gladly, as they have received splendid service. Those who cannot pay are not asked. With regard to suburban districts, many unsolicited contributions are received from residents and controlling bodies, in acknowledgment of the excellent service given by the Auckland St. John Ambulance. No question is raised about distance, the Auckland ambulances travelling over 200 miles from the city when required. I am constantly receiving letters of thanks from those who have benefited, expressing gratitude for the promptness cf the response, to the calls and for the very efficient service rendered."
