TAXIS AMD BUSES.
HAMILTON'S QUANDARY.
"LET SLEEPING DOGS LIE."
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day..
The opinion that the Borough Council's control of transport in -Hamilton has not been improved by Mr. Justice Ostler's quashing of the by-law relating to omnibuses and service cars -was expressed by the borough solicitors in a commiiiiiantion tabled at the council meeting hut eyenng. They urged the council- to hold the matter in abeyance until the fate of the Transport Biil has been decided in the House.
"As the law stands at present," said the solicitors, "owing to the quashing of this by-law there :is nothing whatever to prevent taxls'carrying not more than seven persons, including the driver, competing with omnibus services now established. If this' judgment is good law, then there is nothing' to prevent vehicles carrying not more than seven passengers competing, not only in Ham-ilton-with recognised bus services, but also in ouier jentres. Tins was pointed out to his Honor at'the hearing, but he seems entirely to hav eoverlooked this phase of tlie question." - ■ The Borough Council decided it Ttfas better to "let sleeping dogs lie," and formally received the letter.
