PILLAGED CARGO
SEAMAJT ADMITS THEFT.
GAOL UNTIL HIS BOAT LEAVES,
Having last week pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing jewellery valued at £9 15/, belonging to the .Shaw, Savill and Albion Line, .Leonard William Sharp (51), a seaman on an overseas liner, was presented for sentence at the Police Court.this morning. . . ,■,..' The police said a case of jewellery was pillaged on board the ship. The jewellery which Sharp had was portion of the pillaged stuff.' His ship had since sailed from Auckland, but would not luially leave New Zealand until three weeks' time.
Mr. Noble, who appeared for. Sharp, said he was a naval pensioner and would lose his pension if ho received any sentence greater than three months. Mr. Hunt" sentenced accused to one month's imprisonment and ordered him to be placecf on board his ship before it sails for Home.
