PUSHING ON.
THE CIVIC THEATRE,
READY BEFORE END OF YEAR
Rapid progress is being made with the erection of the Civic Theatre, which is costing £250,000. The interior is quickly taking shape, and a visit of inspection gives a good idea of what the theatre will be like when completed. Construction commenced on April 2(J last, and if everything proceeds smoothly as at present Mr. T. O'Brien hopes to open W building on December 20.
The structure is Oriental in design and ™ TJ i e greafc tem l ,les and mosques oi the East have been used as a pattern for internal decorations.The theatre will be in three tiers. The basement will be designed as a winter garden, where refreshments may be obtained during the entertainment. Then there will be the stalls in the .next tier, and the grand circle, where the most expensive seats will be situated.
The orchestra will come up in a huge pagoda from a well, also the organ console with the player, except that the action will be spiral. By. the .touch of an electric button the organist will be able to turn to the stage,, orchestra or conductor.
