BARRED DANCE.
"HEEBE JEEBIES" DISPLAY. TRIO IN TROUBLE. FINED FOR OBSCENE LANGUAGE. "This thing has got to stop, and I'll do my best to stop it," said Mr. F. HLevien, S.M., at the Otaliuhu Court this morning, when charges of having used obscene language at a dance in the Pakuranga Hall on the night of October 5, were heard. The defendants were Leo Means (21), Douglas White (18), and William Anderson (17). Sergeant Lambert said that another youth was involved and that he would appear later. He added that the conduct of the men at the dance had been very Lad, and some of them had had liquor. Constable Neild said he was at the dance, which was held on Saturday evening. A complaint was made about the conduct of the young men. Two of them had . admitted having had a couple of drinks out of a botle of whisky. Means had been indulging in a dance called "Hebee Jeebies," which was prohibited there, and was told to get out. A "scrap" followed. Evidence in support of the charge was given by one of the M.C.'s who was conducting the dance. Means v. as fined £10, White £5, and Anderson £2.
