October 28—WxtlUato Hunt Club. October 2S—Wolpawa County R.C. October 28—Nctrtli Canterbury R.C. Gesture an d Nimble have been withdrawn from all their engagements at the Auckland spring meeting. Hiata, who was taken across to Australia some months ago* by the Avondale trainer W. Cathro, is due to return to Auckland early next week. Unoco was recently on the easy list at Matsutiata, through going oft' his feed, but is n»sv doing fast work on the Mataniat ft track. Unoco will probably be a starrer at the Waikato Hunt meeting. Riti. ILiki, an aged gelding by Spal-peen-—Maytime, has been sent to Matamata be prepared by C. J. Carmont for jumping races ahead. Riti Hiki, who recently qualified with the Waikato Hoiujds, raced several times last season withwjit success.

Golfcl Rain was nominated for the seoor/d day at Avondale, but will not be sent from Matamata. There is nothing amiss with the gelding, but Trainer Carmont does not think him forward enough at present.

Although not engaged on the first day ,svt Avondale Roman Pearl figures in the '.Mount Albert Handicap on the second day. The daughter of Romeo has been' shaping well iri her latest track work and should pick up a stake shortly.

Prince Val has been shaping nicely oVer short distances at Matamata, states the "Star" Matamata correspondent, but will have to be taken on trust over a mile at Avondale. This gelding faded out at seven furlongs in a similar, race at the June meeting.

Among tho improvements recently effected at the Avondale course has been the top dressing, with scoria, of the area outside for the parking of motor ears, which makes it equal to that obtaining inside, and this should be greatly appreciated by patrons at the forthcoming meeting.

After getting badly away in the Sylvia Park Handicap at the Pakuranga meeting, Motere finished on well and was clo€e up behind the placed horses when they passed the post. He has not had' a race since, but if produced in the Swanson Handicap at Avondale to-mor-row he will have plenty of supporters.

Sir Archie is due to make his first appearance over hurdles at Avondale on Saturday. He has been shaping satisfactorily in his schooling tasks at Ellerslie and is the right type to develop into a good hurdler, for he has plenty of size and can muster up plenty of pace on the flat.

Sea Comet has done well since he raced at the Pakuranga meeting and A Julian is likely to get some more money with the Day Comet gelding, who is looking and working better than ever he has previously done. He will make his next appearance at the Auckland spring meeting, where lie will contest the Hunters' Steeplechase on the openingday, and the Onehunga Steeples on the concluding day of that fixture.

Standfast was responsible for a good effort over seven furlongs at Ellerslie yesterday morning and the gallop will gain him some friends for his Avondale contests. This gelding ran a good race when he finished third in the King George Handicap at the Great Northern meeting to those good performers Lucy Rose and Black Duke, and if he repeats that form at Avondale to-morrow he should be in the money.

The lightweight horseman C. Davis, who rode Full Mark when he captured a double at Marton, and was also on The Masher when he won the Putiki Hack Race at Wanganui, has been engaged to ride The Lover in the Avondale Cup. After riding at Avondale Davis will journey to the Hawke's Bay meeting, and will return again in time to attend the Auckland spring meeting, which opens on October 5. Davis can go to scale just over 7.0, and his services are likely to be in demand for the coming meetings.

At the Ceylon T.C. August meeting Ben Rosen rode four winners, in succession, including Wood Apple in the Madras Cup. The fifth race on the card was won by his brother. B. Rosen is the champion rider of Ceylon. In 1927 he rode five winners in one day, and dead-heated in the other race on the card. On the last day of the same meeting he rode four winners. At the Galle meeting he rode twelve winners, three seconds, and eight thirds. At the Kandy races in 1028 he rode five winners on the fiz'st day, and a second. Rosen, who originally came from Australia, rode for some time in New Zealand, and was never considered in the first flight.

Historic has not done anything out of the ordinary as far as track work is concerned since arriving at Avondale, but he is in tip-top condition and slimild run a great race in the Avondale Cup to-morrow. Ko. usually finishes on well in his races, and the long straight will be to his advantage.

Calithe, who is engaged In tlie Hunters' Steeplechase at the Auckland meeting to be held next month, has arrived at Ellerslie, and was schooled over the big fences on the flat yesterday morning. He gave a satisfactory display, and is likely to do better when he has had a bit more experience over the Ellerslie country. This gelding has been showing improved form on the flat and is in great order to take on jumping events.
