A sharp frost overnight* made the going a trifle heavy for thft early workers, hut the ground dried up under the influence of the bright sunshine, and the track was much faster for the horses 'who galloped after breajcfast. Some useful work was done T>y horses with Ashburton engagements. The Geisha and Spoon reeled off htalf a mile in 51 2-ss, both youngsters going well. Semper, Paratus and Sudden Storm were responsible for six furlongs in 1.17 4-5, a useful performance. Kentish Lady and Briar Thorn occupied 1.19 4-5 for six furlongs. Quarterdeck had Quick Plunge as a mate for seven furlongs, which - they ran in 1.34. Meprisant registered 1.4 3-5 for five furlongs, a smart performance, »s he went from a stand. Straightcourse was responsible "for an attractive effort in sprinting half -a mile in 50 2-ss. Malmsey covered six furlongs by herself in 1,19. Homecoming and Swoopalong ran six furlongs easily in 1.23 3-5, wtifle Disorder Was given a working gallop over seven furlongs. Louise ran six furlongs in 1.21 3-5, without being unduly bustled. Amourette and Don Jose occupied 1.32 4-5 for seven furlongs, and were travelling well at the finish. Thurso took 53 l-5s for half a mile, but did it comfortably. Gold Tinge had Royal Flower as a mate in a six-furlong spin, run in 1.19. After Breakf&st. Topere beat Waihemo over five furlongs, in 1.8, Silver Paper and Aspiring were associated over five furlongs. Silver Paper gave his half-sister a start, and finished alongside her in 1.4 1-5. It was a useful performance on the part of Silver Paper, who finished well, but Aspiring does not seem to be qoite so forward. Rapier and Wrigley covered seven furlongs in 1.33 3-5, with the former going comfortably at the find.

Hoylake and Count Cavour were companions over six furlongs, whiclx occupied 1.19. They toapfc close company all the way, finishing on terms. Miss Nightraid spi'inted three furlongs in 37 4-ss.

Sea Raid and Sweet Refrain were associated over seven furlongs. They were together till well into the straight, when Sea Raid drew away, winning easily in 1.32 2-5. Pago Boy and Haze were given a strong gallop over five furlongs on the plough. Coruiqae arid Desert Song ran five. furlongs in 1.5, the former having a head advantage at the finish. Money Order occupied 1.21 2-5 for an easy run over six furlongs. He is coming on nicely for spring engagements.

Dutch Money and Honeycomb did useful work on the plough. Stately sprinted three furlongs in 395, going very freely. Airplane was given a working gallop over seven furlongs.

The two-year-old Sliepner (Valkyrian —Keep Watch) reeled off three furlongs in 36 4-ss, going in good style. Solgele sprinted three furlongs up the back by himself, and Silver Coot was given a similar task. Gay Sonnet rattled over half a mile in 50 2-ss.

Flair and Arch Arrow ran five furlongs in I.#. They were together at the finish, but Flair was going comfortably. Full Feather and Water line were companions in a useful run over five furlongs. Pangolin (A: J. Peart) was schooled twice over the two hurdles along the back, giving a good exhibition. Bulolo and Buoyant were together at the end of five furlongs, run in 1.5. Rapina -and Huntley covered five furlongs in 1.4 4-5, with nothing between them at the finish.
