EFFORTS TO RAISE FUNDS

\Y ith a view to devising ways and means to raise funds for the upkeep' of the dental clinic, general maintenance und improvement to the grounds, in con- 1 ncction with tho-Otalnihu district school, 1 a public meeting, was held last evening. ■ Mr. W. Payne occupied the chair ami 1 there was a. fair attendance of parents. It was stated that the ordinary capitation was not sufficient to maintain in proper order what was admittedly one of the most attractive school surrounding in the Dominion. The recently installed dental clinic entailed an expenditure of 10/ per week, whilst a sum of close' on £100 per year was needed for grounds ma in ten;: nee. A few years iv'o the committee organised a queen cirnival, when over £1000 was raised, which made possible the picscnt attractive appearance of the grounds. There was now none of that amount left, and! the committee were making a strong appeal to the residents tor further assistance, although a campaign of the previous magnitude is not contemplated.
