SUSPECTED MAN ARRESTED.

YOUNG GROCER REMANDED

Since Saturday last Detective Serjeant Doyle and Detective 0 Sullivan have been particularly busy following up a clue in connection with recent burglaries. Last night they went out to Dominion Road and arrested a yi>ung man on a charge of stealing a large quantity of jewellery. Ilie arrest was effected shortly after nine o'clock. A girl of 17 who accompanied the man was also arrested. The man had a considerable quantity of jewellery in his possession. Subsequently Detective Sergeant Doyle and Detective O'Sullivan visited a house, where they found more jewellery. The arrested man was Francis Hampton Housiaux, a recent arrival Ln Auckland. He appeared at the Police Court this morning before Mr. F. Iv. Hunt, S.M. On the charge sheet Housiaux' address was given as 93, <j raft on Road, and his occupation that of a grocer. He was charged with stealing, oil June 17, three rolled sold watches, silver stop watch, two gold chains, 14 gold wristlet watches, two gold bracelets, "wo gold armlets, and a gold chain, of a total value of £105 5/, the property of some

persons unknown. On the application of Chief Detective Hammond, Housiaux was remanded until •June Rail was not asked IOFj nor allowed.

Tlie girl arrested was "barged with being an idle and disorderly person, with insufficient means ot support.

She pleaded not guilty, and was _ remanded for one week. In the meantime she will be looked after oy Major Gordon. Mr. Hunt made an order for the suppression of her name.
