FIRE ON STEAMER.
EFFECTIVE SAVE ON MAHANA,
FROM WELLINGTON TO BLUFF WILL DISCHARGE IX LOXDOX. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.) IXVERCARGILL, this day. A fire was discovered in the bunkers of the steamer Mahana on her trip from Wellington to the Bluff. Owing to t'-.e cflicient fire-fighting facilities and the prompt action of otlicers and crew, thtire was got under control. So far as i> known, the vessel, which arrived at Bluff at 8.30 last evening, will proceed direct to London to discharge her New Zealand car«M>.
Having loaded New Zealand product at Port lhalmer*. Bluff. Gisborne Wanganui and Wellington, the Mahan.t was to complete loading at Bluff, anri she was timed to leave for London, via Panama, on Sunday. The vessel i.-
