A disastrous fire broke out at 4.30 a.m. on Sunday morning in an old wooden block known a* Cot-kill's Buildings, practically the whole block being gutted. The upstairs portion of the building was need an a cabaret and a Druids' lodge room. The downstairs shops were occupied by Messrs. McLeod (confectioner), (arr (watchmaker), Gay (upholsterer). Hague (tailor), and' Story (auctioneer). Mesr*r*. C'orkill and McLeod are heavy losers, aNo the Druids, who lost t heir piano and all their lodge property and regalia. Other occupiers saved most of the contents. The building was owned by .Mr. .1. Corkill. who is Mayor of W'airoa. The amounts of the insurances are not available.
