MATAMATA NEWS.
At this week's meeting of the Mataniat.t Town Board a discission took place regarding the suggestion of the Thames Valley Power Board to join Putaruru town district up with Matamata for representation on the Power Board. At present the Matamata town has a member representing it solely. The chairman, Mr. J. Buchanan, said he did not think the suggestion would appeal either to Matamata or Putaruru. as there was little community of interest between the two places. It would be better for Putaniru to remain represented in conjunction with the county. It was decided to write to .the Power Board accordingly. Prior to her leaving the Matamata Poet Office, with which she has been associated for many years. A. Oliver was tendered a public farewell, and a prezov.+ntion of a suitcase by the employees at triePost Office. Miss Oliver has ijeen transferred to Auckland.
It is apparent that there will be a sharp discussion in Matamata over the half-holiday question. Although the Tevn Board has decided to ask that Thursdav be gazetted ae the weekly half-ho'irlay. there are a number of busin.'Ms'nen wli-i state that they will olwerve Saturday ho'.iholiday ae heretofore. An effort of the Chamber of Commerce to get unanimity has been abortive.
Mr. A. J. Tong. formerly manager o: the Waharoa Picture Hall, has been appointed manager of the Matamata Town Hall. There were ten asplicatijne ior the position, five of which were 102.i1. Mr. Y. B. Forbes, at present emploved b y he Auckland City Council, formerly or Tamaki and Mangere. who ha.* been appointed foreman for the Matamata district, is expected to take over -iis new duties on Wednesday nest.
