POINT CHEVALIER

PROGRESSIVE LEAGUE FORMED.

Residents in the Point Chevalier district decided to form a Progressive League last evening. During the subsequent discussion the subject of preservation of the beach, especially in view of the present controversy in connection with the bathing punt and the consequent silting up of sand which, it is stated, is denuding the beach to the detriment of the foreshore, was discussed. It was unanimously decided to support Mr. M. J. Coyle, City Councillor, in his efforts to preserve the beach, and it was pointed out that Point Chevalier was the only available beach to serve the Henderson, New Lynn, Avondale and other adjacent districts.

Another object which the league will prosecute is to further the work begun by Mr. M. P. Hooper in the provision of seats along the foreshore—a campaign which has already resulted in the gift of two seats. The leajrue will also work for the general benefit of the Point Chevalier, district.

The following officers were elected:— President, Mr. F. G. Rose; secretary, Mr. M. P. Hooper; treasurer, Mr. W. A Phillips.
