SEA TOO ROUGH.

LONG SWIM POSTPONED.

TIRI TO TAKAPUNA

Had the conditions been favourable, R. _J. Webster, the young Takapuna swimmer, would have made an attempt to swim from Tiri to Takapuna Beach to-day. As matters turned out, a fresh sou'-west wind worked up a fairly rough sea, and Webster did not start.

Webster had arranged for a launch to take him to Tiri, whence he was to enter the water at 11.30. Mr. M. Blomfield, his trainer, and members of the Takapuna Surf Club were to accompany the swimmer in a launch and a dinghy. So choppy were the conditions off Takapuna that Webster and his party did not go to the trouble of going down to Tiri, where the water was much rougher.

Webster swam from Rangitoto to Takapuna on Sunday last, covering the four miles in 1J hours." The distance from Takapuna is approximately sixteen miles, a distance which Webster expected to cover within seven hours. The swim will be attempted at the first favourable opportunity.
