STILL IN DOUBT.

THE PLUNKET SHIELD.

NOT YET TO WELLINGTON.

NEXT MATCH WILL DECIDE.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, this day.

The view is held in some quarters that by defeating Auckland in the recent match Wellington must take the Plunket Shield. That view is not correct. The winning of the shield is decided on the average of runs per wicket system, but there have been three drawn games this year. Out of five played Auckland has secured one win, beating Canterbury, and Wellington have gained one win, defeating Auckland. One match remains to be played, Canterbury v. Otago.

A member of the New Zealand Cricket Council stated this morning that the result of this game would quite likely affect the disposal of the shield, particularly if one side secured an overwhelming win. In any case no announcement would be made until after this match.
