YEAR'S WORK ASSURED.

TEACHERS FROM COLLEGE.

PROBATIONERS' PROSPECTS.

Training college students who completed their course last December and are qualified to take up positions as first -year probationers, have the assurance of the chairman of the Auckland Education Board (Mr. A. Burns) that they will have at least twelve months' work ahead of them.

With an army of almost two hundred new teachers ready to enter the profession each year the board has recently been faced with the problem of finding sufficient positions.

At a meeting of the board this morning the question arose whether all probationers could be placed this year. The secretary, Mr. D. W. Dunlop, informed the chairman that the positions available should be sufficient to meet the demand.

Mr. H. S. W. King: Can you give an assurance that there will not be more tban half a dozen unplaced? Mr. Burns: Yes, but that does not apply to those who came out of college twelve months ago and have completed their first year's probation.

Mr. Dunlop explained that new teachers would be placed in the order of their grading marks, which were awarded by the principal of the Training College (Mr. H. G. Cousins).

In reply to a further question by Mr. King, the chairman said the grading list prepared by Mr. Cousins was submitted to the senior inspector.
