OBITUARY.

MR. S. H. MERRIKIN.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) MORRINSVILLE, this day.

Mr. Sydney Herbert Merrikin died this morning after a long illness. Born at Utterbv, Lincolnshire, 53 years ago, Mr. Merrikin was apprenticed to a chemist, and on securing his diploma as dispenser for the famous fcnglisn chemists, John Bell and Son, London, he joined the wholesale firm of Evans, Lescher and Webb, Ltd. During the Boer war he was sent to South Africa to take care of the firm's interests. He remained until 1907. when he came to New Zealand as his firm's representative in the Dominion and in Queensland. Six vears a~o he purchased a chemists business*" in Morrinsville, and conducted it until his death. Mr. Merrikin was recognised by all members of the profession as a very clever chemist. Five years ago he married Miss J. Mitchell, of Timarn. He has two brothers in New Zealand—Mr. (i. E. Merrikin, of Hatnma, and Mr. E. S. Merrikin. of Raurimu. He was a member of the Morrinsville Bowling Club, and took a keen interest in swimming.
